Welcome to my playthrough of Koriko: A Magical Year. Last time we were introduced to Giselle and now we follow her in her last few days in Sparrow Creek before she sets out on her journey.

Dear Wanderer,
These past few night I’ve had trouble sleeping. I think stress is giving me strange dreams. I dream as if I’m traveling through impossible terrain. That I get lost or crash my bike and hurt myself or others. I’m worried enough about leaving when I’m awake. I don’t need my sleeping mind to add to it. I keep worrying about being alone in Koriko. Will anyone like me? What if something happens and I don’t know how to solve it. Aunt Melody says I can’t worry about things that I don’t know will even happen. I suppose I will just have to see how things pan out.

My neighbor Tommy asked Aunt Melody to help him with a rodent problem. Said they kept stealing all his sugar. Aunt Melody said she was busy but that I could help instead. She wasn’t busy but I couldn’t really say no. It turned out what was infesting Tommy’s bakery was not rodents but sugar gremlins, but to be fair they did kind of look like mice. It took all my strength to hold Marble back from pouncing on the poor things.
Even though Tommy was throwing a fit over the sugar gremlins, I managed to keep calm and explain to him that we should hear them out. There must’ve been a reason they suddenly moved into his bakery. As my aunt would say, everything deserved a chance to explain themselves, and we should always listen before jumping to conclusions. Turns out a snake had moved into their old home chasing the gremlins out. They smelled the bakery full of sugar and decided to move in. I explained to the gremlins that humans live by different rules, and you have to ask before entering people’s homes.
Tommy ended up being moved by the gremlins’ plight and offered them a deal. He would give them a home and food (sugar in this case) if they would help him keep actual rodents out. His old orange cat Rusty was getting on in years and needed help on the job. Everyone agreed and all’s well that ends well I guess. I just hope they can all get along. I asked Aunt Melody to check on them all while I was gone. She grumbled a lot about it but ended up agreeing to my request. See, she does care.
For context, we’re still in the introduction phase of Koriko. These next few entries follow prompts in the book you get from rolling dice as Giselle does some last minute things in her hometown and the first few days of her journey. The real gameplay loop starts when you get to the volumes in the book and begin drawing tarot cards. I’ll explain that more when we get to it, but for now these prompts were chosen from two lists of six and rolling dice. Anyway, thank you for taking the time to read this and hope you’re having a magical day!
I'm enjoying this story and the cute illustration you made to go along with it—very delightful! :)
